Former England and Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has praised Liverpool and claimed that the Reds have to win silverware to justify their spending.
The striker was speaking to Coral (h/t Daily Star) and even claimed that we would push Manchester City a long way this season.
“I’ve been very impressed with the energy that they’ve shown.
“Their closing down, the goals they’ve scored. Without doubt they’ve got the firepower to worry other teams and I do think it’ll be between Liverpool and City this season.
“Liverpool will push City all the way. They look solid at the back with (Joe) Gomez and (Virgil) Van Dijk.”
The former Magpie was speaking ahead of our clash against Brighton & Hove Albion and praised Naby Keita, before claiming that Alisson hasn’t had much to do in his first two games.
Shearer further added that Klopp has to win a trophy with the team that Liverpool have built.
“So Liverpool are looking very good and it could be a good season for them.
“He’s like all the managers in the top five or six that when you look around, particularly with the money that’s been spent, he has to go out and get some silverware with this team that he’s assembled.”
The report from the Daily Star claims that we spent £175m in the summer window and our most expensive signing of the summer was the Brazilian keeper, who came in for £67m.

The Reds do look good but it is early days and we have a long way to go before silverware comes to Anfield.
