“Bizarre” and “strange” – Liverpool star reacts to latest transfer move

Simon Mignolet has termed Loris Karius’ loan move away from Liverpool as “bizarre” and “strange”.

The Daily Star

reports that the German keeper joined Besiktas on a two-year deal worth £2.25m. The club could end up paying an additional £7.25m should the move become permanent, as per the report.

Mignolet was quoted by Daily Star as saying:

“I find it bizarre that Karius was loaned while I also had options to be loaned.

“But for some reason that was not possible.

“A goalkeeper who was preferred to me last year may leave on a loan basis – strange.”

Mignolet was our second-choice keeper behind Karius but now, it looks like he will play second fiddle to Alisson this season.

However, the Belgian is ready to play for the Reds, should he be called into action.

“The transfer of Karius doesn’t change anything for me.

“I have always been clear that I want to play.

“Being number two or number three makes little difference. Playing minutes is the most important thing.”

Mignolet further claimed that he did not know what the future holds for him and is looking forward to the coming week.

The European transfer window is open till 31st August and players English clubs can continue selling to other leagues.

If Mignolet leaves us now, it would leave us thin in the goalkeeping department. The Belgian’s experience could come handy for us in some of the cup games and provide cover should Alisson pick up an injury.
