£27million-rated Liverpool star’s father claims Jurgen Klopp is happy with striker in training

Divock Origi’s father, Mike Origi, has claimed that Jurgen Klopp is happy with the Belgian and it is up to the 23-year-old to break into the Liverpool team.

The Express reports that Origi rejected a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund didn’t match Liverpool’s asking price.

The Reds wanted £27million (h/t Express) for the 23-year-old and did not want to loan him out.

Mike was speaking to Kenyan paper Daily Nation (h/t Express) and was quoted as saying:

“Divock is still a Liverpool player and is still on contract until the end of the 2019-2020 season.

“The coach [Klopp] is already happy with what he’s seeing with Divock in training and it’s up to the young man to now fight for a place in the team.”

The senior Origi further claimed that Dortmund and Valencia had “shown interest” in his son but the Reds didn’t receive a suitable offer.

Mike further added that his son should fight in the coming months and wait to see what happens before the winter transfer window.

“He has seen the difference between Liverpool and other clubs and will obviously know that he has to fight hard to remain in Liverpool which is a bigger club.

“Three months in football is a long time and Divock is already doing well in training and the coach is happy. Let’s wait and see what will happen between now and the winter window.”

The 23-year-old didn’t impress during his loan spell with Wolfsburg last season. Liverpool have a number of options in the forward department with Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke on the books.

Origi could get to play a few cup games and should he impress Klopp, the Belgian might get to make additional appearances in the Premier League as well.
