Jamie Carragher believes Xherdan Shaqiri will be used as Mohamed Salah’s back-up and will be a quality signing for the Reds.
The 26-year-old impressed during Switzerland’s 1-0 loss against England and Carragher believes the Swiss star could play centrally for the Reds.
The former Liverpool defender was speaking to Sky Sports (Daily Star) and said:
“If Salah comes off, is he ever going to replace him? I don’t think he will replace him as a starter but to bring him off and bring him on.
“He did make a difference when he came on (against Leicester), he may play more centrally for Switzerland, maybe something going forward for Liverpool also.”
The former Stoke City player hasn’t started a game for us this season but he has made a couple of substitute appearances.
Carragher further claimed that Shaqiri is a “brilliant” buy for the Reds and expected him to do well, given the number of games we have after the international break.
“I think it’s a brilliant buy for Liverpool.
“It’s one of those buys where even if it doesn’t work out, there’s no way they’re not going to get their money back. So I think it works for everyone really.
“He’ll want to put himself in the limelight because of the huge games coming up for Liverpool in the next month and he will want to be a part of it.”
The 26-year-old has looked in decent form every time he came off the bench. He could receive regular starts when we play in the Champions League and other cup competitions.
