Dejan Lovren questions exclusion of this Liverpool player from FIFA best XI

Dejan Lovren has called out FIFA as they failed to select Mohamed Salah in the best XI from last season.

The Egyptian won the Puskas Award for his goal against Everton but could not find a place in the team. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo all made the side but there was no place for the 44-goal Liverpool

Salah also came third in the best men’s player category and Lovren posted a story on his Instagram account questioning the absence of the Egyptian in the best XI.

The decisions taken at the awards function do raise a number of questions. Salah couldn’t get into the XI and Thibaut Courtois, who was adjudged to be the best goalkeeper, faced a similar fate with David De Gea taking his spot.

The Puskas Award was also controversial as Salah beat efforts from Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Egyptian won 38% of the award but even James Milner had a cheeky response, suggesting this was Salah’s “seventh” best goal from last season.

Lovren does have a point and we hope this will spur our forward to go on and break more records this season.

Salah has started the season slowly with just three goals from seven games. However, he looked to be close to his best in our 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend.
