Liverpool were dumped out of the Carabao Cup with Chelsea scoring goals via Emerson Palmieri and Eden Hazard.
We did take the lead via Daniel Sturridge, who scored acrobatically, but it was not enough to get us the victory.
Liverpool dominated the game, especially in the second half, and had a number of chances to score. However, we squandered numerous chances.
There were a couple of moments that cost us big time and one of them was Sturridge missing an open goal.
A back pass from Andreas Christensen sent Sturridge through on goal. The Englishman rounded keeper Willy Caballero but missed the target.
Sturridge had time to sort his feet out but rushed to score and that was one pivotal moment that hurt us.
Another moment that should have gone in our favour was the first goal. A couple of Chelsea players were offside and even if they weren’t touching the ball, they were active in play and it is a major surprise as to how VAR did not rule the goal out.
There wasn’t much to be done about that but Alberto Moreno should have done better. Had we played our first-team, the result might have been different and it will be interesting to see how we do at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
