Xherdan Shaqiri provided the assist for Mohamed Salah’s winner against Huddersfield on Saturday. The former Stoke City player started the game and claimed that he was playing in a deeper position.
The win kept Liverpool tied on top of the table with Manchester City, and the Swiss star believed he can play in this position for the Reds.
Shaqiri was speaking to LiverpoolFC and said:
“I started off in a midfield three and it was also something new because normally I’m more offensive, but I think I can play this position.
“Offensively the coach wanted me to be between the lines and I tried sometimes and we scored the goal. I’m really happy that I played from the beginning and I tried to give the manager a good performance. I’m really happy with that.”
It was a great pass from Shaqiri but Joe Gomez had a role in the goal too. The English defender passed to the Swiss star and the Stoke man was quick to praise Gomez’s part.
“It was a good pass from Joe [Gomez], I got the ball between the lines, I turned and it’s difficult sometimes to defend when I turn and am in front of defenders. Mo made a good run and I gave him a perfect pass so it was a good goal.”

It was great seeing Shaqiri getting a start and he did a pretty good job. The former Stoke man might get some minutes in midweek against Red Star Belgrade, and hopefully, he will score against the Serbians.
