James Milner laments Liverpool’s lack of ruthlessness after 1-1 Arsenal draw

James Milner was the only goal scorer for Liverpool in their draw against Arsenal. The Reds weren’t at their best at the Emirates and could have been a few goals down had Arsenal got their shooting boots on.

We did create a few chances with Virgil van Dijk hitting the post with a header. Bernd Leno also saved well from the Dutch defender in a one-on-one situation.

Sadio Mane also saw a goal being ruled out for offside but Milner scored via a smart finish in the second half. We couldn’t hold on to the lead as Alexandre Lacazette scored a deserved equaliser for the home side, and we kept our unbeaten run going in the Premier League.

The point could be useful in the run-up to the Premier League race, but Milner believed we could have done more in the game.

The Englishman was right in saying we have to be more ruthless in front of goal with the chances we created. Milner further touched upon the result being disappointing as we didn’t see out the game, despite leading by a goal.

The Liverpool vice-captain was told that we have picked up five points from our trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, compared to one from last season.

That is progress from Liverpool but the Englishman rightly said this draw was different from the one we salvaged against Chelsea a few weeks ago.

Liverpool do not have a lot of time to dwell on this result as we are back in Champions League action against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.
