“We made life a bit too easy for Belgrade” – Jurgen Klopp opens up about Liverpool’s Champions League loss

Jurgen Klopp believed Red Star Belgrade were aggressive in our 2-0 loss on Tuesday and claimed Liverpool made things easy for their hosts.

The defeat against the bottom-placed team in our Champions League group makes it difficult for us to progress into the next round.

The German was quoted by the Guardian when was asked what went wrong for the team:

“I only have 10 fingers.

“They were aggressive. They were aggressive in the last game as well only then we did better.

“We made life a bit too easy for Belgrade. That is the main problem. They deserved it with the passion they showed. They gave everything.”

The manager added that although we played the right balls at times, the players could not produce their magic and finish well in the box.

Liverpool hit the post twice in the game, however, we rarely cut Red Star open. The Reds also made a number of changes to their starting XI with Adam Lallana and Joel Matip starting, and Klopp backed his decision to mix the team up.

“It made sense to make a few changes. A few we had to make and a few we wanted to but it is easy to say it didn’t work out in the end.”

Our manager knew the massive task ahead in the final two games but assured that the team will work hard to ensure a similar result does not happen in a couple of weeks.
