Liverpool handed boost in pursuit of 21-year-old Bundesliga starlet

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Jonas Boldt has confirmed that Leon Bailey would not be sold in the winter window but are open to letting him leave in the future.

The 21-year-old Jamaican has been linked with Liverpool (h/t Football.london) after having a fantastic season with the Bundesliga club last time around.

Boldt told Bild (h/t Football.london):

“The conversation was good. We all know that Leon will eventually leave.

“But we have made it clear that a winter transfer is out of the question.

“He also knows that he has our backing.”

The attacker scored nine goals and chipped in with six assists from 30 Bundesliga games last season, however, he has been quiet this term with one goal from 10 league games.

Bailey is one of the highest rated players in the Bundesliga and some believe the value of the youngster could be close to £100m (h/t Football.london

).

The report adds that the youngster extended his stay at the Bundesliga club until 2023. Leverkusen aren’t in a great position in the league this season with 11 points from 10 games.

Bailey has formed a great partnership with a couple of other Leverkusen players in Kai Havertz and Julian Brandt, and it will be interesting to see how he progresses throughout the campaign.

The other clubs interested in the Jamaican include the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea, according to the report, and there could be a bidding war for the 21-year-old come the start of next season.
