Liverpool star explains how he got the “Braveheart” nickname from Jurgen Klopp

Andrew Robertson

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has explained how he got the name “Braveheart” from Jurgen Klopp and what the manager told him after becoming the Scotland captain.

Robertson has been incredible since signing for us from Hull City and was speaking to Open Goal (h/t Daily Mail

) about the moniker.

“There was one game last season, Manchester City in the Champions League, and I’d done my calf at the weekend and they weren’t sure if I was going to play, then I managed to pull through, so he was like ‘ahh braveheart’ and all this, ‘now you’re the real braveheart’”.

Robertson also added that he texted Klopp once he was assigned as the captain of Scotland and the German responded by sending him a text in all caps.

“He just texted back in big capital letters: ‘YOU’RE THE REAL SCOTTISH BRAVEHEART NOW.’ And I gave a thumbs up and he gave a wee dance emoji.”

The Scot is having a wonderful season with the Reds as we have conceded just five goals from 12 Premier League games.

Robertson was instrumental in our 2-0 win over Fulham last week, and even set up Xherdan Shaqiri for the important second goal of the game.

The 24-year-old has five assists to his name this season, and is likely to add to that number as the season progresses.

Our next game is against Watford in a week’s time and Robertson should be one of the first names on the starting XI for Klopp.
