Virgil van Dijk was the hero for the Netherlands as the captain volleyed home a last-minute goal in the 2-2 draw with Germany.

The result ensured the Netherlands made it into the last four of the Nations League. The Dutch were trailing by a couple of goals thanks to strikes from Timo Werner and Leroy Sane.

Quincy Promes pulled one back in the 85th minute before Van Dijk came up with the goods. The Netherlands possibly had the toughest Nations League group with France being the other team, and their progress over the world champions was deserved.

Georginio Wijnaldum also played an hour in the 2-2 draw but the night belonged to Van Dijk. The Liverpool

defender is yet to score for us this season but this result will give him more confidence once he returns from international duty.

Some Liverpool fans were certain the defender is one of the best in the world while some wanted him to be named as the first captain of the club.
