Liverpool could be one of the Premier League clubs most affected if Theresa May’s Brexit deal goes through, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The report claims that proposals for a post-Brexit Premier League would see clubs being limited to 12 players that don’t fit into the home-grown rule.
The Reds have fielded 15 players this season that doesn’t fit into the home-grown or U21 player category, as per the report.
In fact, the Reds have only sent out five home-grown players and two U21 players, which is the lowest in the Premier League, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The report adds that Liverpool wouldn’t be the only club to fall foul of the new rules with Manchester City and Fulham having fielded 17 foreign players while Chelsea have field 16 this season.
The Reds do have a great youth system and should such a rule be in place, we could see more players such as Ryan Kent or Ben Woodburn getting a chance at the club.
Liverpool have done pretty well this season and if we are to let go of some of our foreign stars, that could lead to some tough decisions being taken by the club.
Jurgen Klopp has a history of working well with young players, and he might need to do some extra work should the Brexit rules be put into place.
