Liverpool star free to play for club over the weekend even as betting probe continues

Daniel Sturridge will be allowed to play for Liverpool this weekend should the investigations into his alleged breach of betting rules drags on, according to the Independent.

The 29-year-old Liverpool star has denied gambling on football and has to submit an official response by Tuesday 6:00 PM, as per the report

The alleged offence from the English striker was regarding his loan move to West Brom in January earlier this year.

The move didn’t work out great for Sturridge as he was relegated with the side, but his fortunes have changed a bit since being recalled by Liverpool this season.

The 29-year-old has a few important goals to his name and has some decent performances under his belt for the Reds.

The report claims that the process regarding Sturridge’s alleged discretion could take weeks on end as there is no set punishment in similar cases.

Joey Barton received an 18-month suspension which was later reduced for placing bets, according to the Independent.

The English midfielder continued playing for Burnley for 18 games while the investigation was being carried out.

The striker seems to be enjoying his time at Liverpool and it would be a shame if he is found guilty of any indiscretions.

Sturridge could have a huge part to play in the rest of the season for the Reds, and any ban would certainly put us in deep trouble.
