“That deal is dead in the water” – James Pearce claims Liverpool are unlikely to move for this World Cup winner

Nabil Fekir

Liverpool will not be making a move for Nabil Fekir and believe the transfer is “dead in the water”, according to Liverpool Echo reporter James Pearce.

The Frenchman was linked with a move to the Reds in the summer (h/t Liverpool Echo

), however, the deal fell through regarding an earlier knee problem for the Lyon attacker.

Pearce was answering questions on the Echo

and wrote:

“Liverpool’s stance has always been that that deal is absolutely dead in the water and won’t be revisited because of concerns of his knee and how his ACL had been repaired. They felt there was a higher than normal chance of it going again.”

Pearce did add that Liverpool could think about a move for the French attacker should the price come down. The journalist added that Fekir has not signed a new deal and that could see the Reds get interested in the 25-year-old World Cup winner.

The reporter claimed Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the Frenchman, but his price is a big issue.

“With the previously-agreed fee and wages, you’ll talking about a £70million commitment for a player that could miss a year out of the next three or four. If that fees come down, it might be worth having another conversation but I wouldn’t be getting Fekir on the back of a shirt anytime soon.”

Fekir did a pretty good job for Lyon in their shock win over Manchester City at the Etihad a few weeks ago, and the French attacker could have been an excellent signing for us.

Liverpool are missing someone in the team that can run at defences from the midfield and the Frenchman fits that tag almost perfectly.
