Virgil van Dijk insists Liverpool will play for the win at Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League encounter on Wednesday.

The Reds know a win over their Parisian rivals will be enough to take us into the knockout round of the competition. A draw would mean we have to defeat Napoli at Anfield on the final match day.

Liverpool lost their previous Champions League game 2-0 against Red Star Belgrade, however, Van Dijk told Liverpool’s website that they are aiming for the three points in Paris:

“We want to win in Paris. We’re not going to go there for a draw; we’re not going there for anything else other than trying to produce a good performance and trying to win the game.”

The Dutch defender added that the tie would be difficult given that Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in Ligue 1 and haven’t lost a home fixture in a while.

The Liverpool star believed we need to play our regular game and stop the opposition from carrying out their game plan.

PSG have a couple of injury concerns with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar picking up knows during the international break, however, Van Dijk wanted the side to focus on themselves.

“They have plenty of good players throughout their squad.

“We will see if they play. They are obviously quality players and we need to respect that, but they still have other fantastic players to cover them.

“We need to focus on ourselves and make sure we’re ready to press them, to try to make sure they can’t play their game and we will see if that will be the case.”

A win will certainly be a great result for the Reds, and hopefully, we can record a similar win to the first game of the campaign with Roberto Firmino scoring a late goal.
