“It’s not interesting” – Jurgen Klopp rubbishes claims about Liverpool not winning league title despite Christmas lead

Jurgen Klopp used some colourful language when speaking about Liverpool’s Christmas problem in the Premier League.

The Reds topped the table at Christmas this season and the Mirror reports that out of the last 10 years, only twice has a side leading during the festive period not won the league.

Ominously, Liverpool were the team that missed out on both instances, in 2008-09 and in 2013-14. However, Klopp wasn’t having any of these suggestions and wanted the team to stay focused (h/t Mirror):

“I was asked the other day if we can lose it from this position. It’s just bulls**t.

“We’ve collected so many points and it’s a new record for the club so let’s stay on that path and see where it takes us. We have to be focused.”

The German spoke about this difference of the situation and that a lot of work is to be done for the remainder of the campaign.

“I’ve heard many times now that when you’re top at Christmas you win the title, but only Liverpool won’t! It’s all bulls**t. What does it mean? It’s a different team, a different time. It’s not interesting.

“And if the opposite was true and Liverpool went on to become champions in those previous seasons, would I think now, halfway through the s­eason, that the job is done? Of course not.”

Liverpool have been unlucky when charging for the Premier League title in recent years, and it would be incredible if we lift the holy grail for the first time.

The Reds have been spectacular this season but a couple of tough tests lie in the coming days, with Arsenal visiting Anfield and Manchester City hosting us as we look to lift a trophy under Klopp.
