Xherdan Shaqiri heaps praises on Liverpool youngster after impressive display against Wolves

Liverpool summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri believes Ki-Jana Hoever will be a great player for the Reds in the coming years.

The 16-year-old got his first taste of the senior Liverpool team in our FA Cup loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

Hoever was brought on to replace the injured Dejan Lovren, and the Dutch defender put up a decent show despite us getting knocked out of the tournament.

Shaqiri was quoted by the Express speaking about Hoever:

“He is still very young, you see that on the pitch also.

“He came on and he tried everything. He is going to be a very good player in the future.”

Jurgen Klopp rotated his side in the FA Cup, but it was of no use as we were dumped out of the competition.

Ki-Jana Hoever

The German hasn’t had the best of times in this tournament, but he will have a chance of getting us back into the winning habit with a trip to Brighton at the weekend.

There were a couple of other starlets on show against Wolves such as Rafa Camacho and Curtis Jones, but it was Hoever that shone the brightest.

It would be a major surprise seeing Hoever started against the Seagulls. However, the youngster proved he can put up a decent performance against Premier League opposition.

The Reds have problems in their defence with three central defenders injured, and we could see the 16-year-old on the bench till the likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip return.
