Jurgen Klopp claims missing out on this star during his Dortmund days was one of his biggest mistakes

Jurgen Klopp celebrates with Sadio Mane

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claimed that not signing Sadio Mane during his time at Borussia Dortmund is one of his biggest mistakes.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Klopp was tracking the Senegal star since the 2012 Olympics and had the chance to sign Mane in 2014.

The German had a meeting with the star, but could not get the deal over the line. Mane joined Ronald Koeman at Southampton and was excellent for the Saints.

The German further claimed he loved Mane and the Senegalese star is an “outstanding player”. Klopp was pleased with the fact that he got a second chance to work with the forward after Liverpool signed (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I have made a few mistakes in my life and one of my biggest mistakes ever was not taking Sadio when I was at Dortmund.

“We were together in an office and I spoke to him.

“Afterwards I wasn’t sure but that was really my fault!

“He’s an outstanding boy and life gave me a second chance to work with him and hopefully we can both use it.”

Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane

Mane has been a fantastic signing for the Reds and has scored 42 goals for us in all competitions. Last season we reached the Champions League final thanks to the exploits of our attack, but this season has been even better.

The trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mane might not be banging the goals in for fun, but we sit top of the Premier League.

The Senegal attacker has scored some important goals for us with strikes against Manchester United and Arsenal coming recently.

The 26-year-old should have more goals in his bag for the remainder of the campaign as we look to win silverware for the first time under Klopp.
