Fabinho has spoken about his time playing as Liverpool’s centre-back in our last two games. The Reds lost the FA Cup tie against Wolves with Jurgen Klopp playing mostly his second-string players but Brazilian did a great job against Brighton.
The summer signing is primarily a midfielder but did a great job alongside Virgil van Dijk in the win over the Seagulls.
The Brazilian claimed that he got better with Ki-Jana Hoever playing alongside him in the loss to Wolves, but we got to see the best of the Liverpool man last Saturday.
Fabinho added that he played well against Brighton and heaped praise on Van Dijk (h/t Metro):
“Playing alongside Van Dijk helped, he’s really vocal, he guided us. He helped me a lot. I had good communication with Trent and also with Hendo; they were the players closest to me on the pitch.”
The midfielder added that he needs to improve some aspects of the game but he was certain that would come with more time in the position.
“In general, I think it was a good game. In this position, which I haven’t played in a lot, I think I adapted well. There are some aspects, such as positioning, that I need to improve on.
“If I were to play in this position more, I’d improve on these things, but that’s natural.”
It was great to see someone stepping up in the absence of a senior central defender, and hopefully, we won’t have to see Fabinho play in this role for the rest of the season.

The Brazilian has been great in the middle of the park and hopefully, he keeps his place in the starting XI for a long time.
