Liverpool are not plotting a move for Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie, according to the Evening Standard.
The 20-year-old American is one of the brightest youngsters in the Bundesliga and had been linked with a £20m move to Anfield (h/t Evening Standard).
However, the Standard claims there is no interest from Liverpool for the American, who can play in midfield and in defence.
The youngster has 36 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke, but the report adds that Jurgen Klopp is happy with his options in midfield, and isn’t looking to add more players in this position during the current transfer window.
The report adds that there it is unlikely the Reds will move for McKennie in the summer as the club looks at other options.
McKennie has played in several positions this season, even filling in as a right-back, and the youngster could have been a decent addition to the side.
The 20-year-old has a lot of potential to fulfil, and will get better with more playing time. It would have been unlikely for the American to get regular starts at Anfield given our options in midfield, even if we are dealing with an injury crisis.
Liverpool have done very well so far in this campaign, and it will be interesting to see if we make a move for some other positions in the winter window.
