Liverpool star reveals how Klopp helped the Reds recover from consecutive losses

Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has provided an insight as to how the Reds dealt with back-to-back losses at the start of the year.

The Reds lost to Manchester City in the Premier League and then to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup, however, they bounced back with wins over Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Wijnaldum missed the game against the Eagles but told Premier League Productions (h/t Liverpoolfc.com) that the team learned more about themselves in the losses rather than the wins.

The Reds hold a four-point lead over City, and next play Leicester City. Wijnaldum spoke about Jurgen Klopp’s role in keeping the team going and how he believed in the side:

“What I learned the most was that we still need to keep the confidence; in Jurgen we have a manager who can help us with that. That’s what he said after the games against City and Wolves – that we must keep the confidence and maybe even work harder than before.

Liverpool players celebrate a win

“He gave us the feeling that we had to deal with it and work even harder to make it better.”

The Reds weren’t great in their wins over Brighton and Palace, but getting the points in both games is what that mattered. Liverpool have also been plagued by several injuries in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see how our defence lines up against the Foxes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are still carrying knocks while James Milner is suspended for the next game after his red card against Palace.

Wijnaldum’s return would be a huge boost for the team and hopefully, the Dutch midfielder is fit enough to start on Wednesday night.
