Jurgen Klopp admitted that Liverpool’s goal against West Ham was offside and added that the hosts deserved a point for the performance. This was the second consecutive 1-1 draw for Liverpool and their lead at the top of the table is down to three points.

Manchester City could overtake us should they beat Everton in midweek, however, they would have played an extra game.

Liverpool took the lead in the 22nd minute with Sadio Mane scoring from a James Milner cross. However, there was a lot of controversy in the build-up to the goal with the Englishman being in an offside position.

Klopp was speaking after the game and confirmed that we got the rub of the green with this decision (h/t ESPN):

“Obviously, our goal was offside. I didn’t know that in the game and at half-time nobody told me, I didn’t ask.

“After the game, our analysts told me immediately. They scored a goal, we scored an offside goal.”

Klopp further claimed that Divock Origi scoring from an offside position would have been a “lucky moment” for the Reds.

Liverpool were poor for most of the game and despite dominating possession, we didn’t have as many clear-cut chances as the Hammers. These kind of performances are worrying as this is the period where we have to put as much pressure on the chasing pack as possible.

The Reds have a chance of fixing their errors when they play Bournemouth on Saturday and hopefully, we can remain on top of the table after the next set of games.
