Jurgen Klopp does not want others to feel sorry for them as the Premier League race heats up. Liverpool missed out on opening a five-point lead over Manchester City after their draw at West Ham. The Cityzens can move to the top of the table should they beat Everton in midweek, but would have played a game more.

Klopp was speaking after the game and added that he was happy getting a point against a tough Hammers side (h/t Guardian):

“I see your faces and you are feeling sorry for us but we are fine.

“If you get a point at West Ham, that’s fine. That’s not a surprise. If you want to win big things you have to be ready for these tight races.”

The manager also lamented on several injuries and problems suffered by the Reds, and wanted the team to play better:

“The team is doing well. It’s a tough moment. Milly was ill. Maybe he is still ill. Virg was out three or four days and lost four kilos. Could we have played better? 100%. But the games are difficult.”

Klopp was not going to use this as an excuse but was content with the point at the London Stadium. West Ham actually had the better chances in the game, and we were a little fortunate not to concede more goals after Michael Antonio cancelled Sadio Mane’s opener.

The Senegal star’s goal was mired in controversy as James Milner was in an offside position before crossing the ball into the box.

The Reds have to get back to winning ways after consecutive 1-1 draws have cut our lead to just three points. Our next game is against a tough Bournemouth team on Saturday.
