Latest Liverpool news: Patrick Kluivert wants more goals from Georginio Wijnaldum
Former Barcelona and Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert believes Georginio Wijnaldum needs to add more goals to his game.
The 28-year-old scored in Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth with a great lob over Artur Boruc, however, that was only his second goal for the club this season.
The Reds ran out 3-0 winners over the Cherries, and Kluivert compared the goal with that of another Dutch legend – Dennis Bergkamp.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, the former Barcelona star said (h/t Mirror):
“There was a little bit of Bergkamp about it – it was a great goal. His first touch was already towards the goal and a sublime [finish].
“He can [score more goals]. Georginio is a player who is a real midfielder. Sometimes he gets the goal and sometimes he doesn’t.”
More goals possible from the Dutchman
Wijnaldum has scored some important goals for the Reds since he joined from Newcastle United, however, they don’t come on a regular basis. Jurgen Klopp has to take a bit of the blame, deploying him in a slightly deeper midfield role.
The 28-year-old played as an attacking midfielder during his time at Newcastle, and it would have been interesting to see how he would have done if he was slotted just behind our front three.

Liverpool’s attack is already one of the best in the world, but a charging Dutchman behind the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane could have made us a greater threat up front.
