Latest Liverpool news: Reds support Financial Fair Play investigations related to Manchester City
Liverpool are backing UEFA’s investigations into Manchester City’s alleged breach of the Financial Fair Play rules, according to the Telegraph.
The report claims that the European body would investigate the accusations made against City by German paper Der Spiegel.
The Telegraph adds that at least 12 clubs have written to the Premier League requiring clarification on the stance of the Premier League on the allegations against City.
Liverpool are also one of the clubs that want a detailed investigation given the serious nature of the allegations.
Klopp not speaking much about City’s problems
Jurgen Klopp was also asked if Liverpool were in a fair fight for the title (h/t Telegraph):
“How I understand it, investigations are there to figure something out. If there is a result then I could talk about it. If there is not a result then it’s just an investigation. That’s how it is.”
The German added that he believes in a fair competition but could not comment on the current scenario.
Liverpool have also had their issues with Financial Fair Play due to financial mismanagement during the ownership of the previous set of Americans (h/t Telegraph).
However, the Reds were cleared of any breaches of the rules. The report adds that John Henry is a “chief advocate” of the financial rules, and there are expectations that any breaches would result in severe punishment.
