Latest Liverpool news: Fans react to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returning to action for U23s

There was some good news for Liverpool as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to the U23s against Derby on Friday.

The midfielder has missed all of this season so far due to a major knee injury from last season. However, he has worked hard on returning for the Reds and picked up some valuable minutes on Friday.

The Reds won 3-1 but Oxlade-Chamberlain had to be subbed around the 40-minute mark.
Liverpool released a statement regarding the replacement of the player, and claimed this was a precautionary measure:

“He obviously had a bit of an issue but hopefully it’s nothing major,” said Neil Critchley. “The bonus for him is that it’s not his knee, so he’s delighted there are no problems with that.”

The U23 boss added that the midfielder enjoyed his time on the pitch and claimed the plan was to give him 45 minutes only.

Critchley added that the Ox would be assessed to understand what the issue could be.

Another step for the Ox

The Ox certainly has made great progress so far this season, and this was a reminder that he still has a way to go before playing in the first-team.

The Englishman returning to the team would provide us with a major boost for the remainder of the campaign, and could be the driving force from the midfield that we need.

The Reds are in a battle against Manchester City for the Premier League crown, and it will be interesting to see if the Ox plays a few minutes for the first-team this season.

Many Liverpool fans were pleased with the return of the Englishman and were hopeful it wasn’t a serious problem.
