Latest Liverpool news: Club legend Hyypia pictured with Van Dijk

Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia was present with the other members of the Reds in Munich.

The Reds travelled to Germany for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, and the Finnish defender was there for one of our biggest games of the season.

Hyypia is one of the best defenders we had in the Premier League era. The former centre-back spent a decade at Anfield before leaving for Bayer Leverkusen and led us to two FA Cups, a Champions League and a UEFA Cup too.

One legend meets a future legend

It was fitting for the Anfield legend to share a picture with another quality defender. Virgil van Dijk missed the first leg of the tie due to suspension but he easily is one of the best defenders in the world.

The 27-year-old signed from Southampton and has made the Liverpool defence one of the best in Europe.

The Reds have conceded only 17 goals from 30 Premier League games this campaign, and he is one reason we are still fighting for the league title.

Hyypia in his prime was brilliant and his consistency was incredible too. Van Dijk seems to be on the same path as the former Liverpool star and it is to be seen how much more he can improve in the coming years.

Van Dijk hasn’t even been here for two complete seasons, but he is already one of the best players we have. And it seems likely that he will become a future legend should he continue playing in the same manner and lead us to trophies.
