James Milner started in our win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. The veteran put in a quality performance and even got an assist as Virgil van Dijk headed in the second goal of the night for us.
The Englishman has been a model of consistency, however, he isn’t the most dynamic midfielder we have had in recent years.
Liverpool were forced to make an early change with Jordan Henderson being replaced by Fabinho, and that helped us control the game more.
The opening goal of the game was a thing of beauty from Sadio Mane. Van Dijk played a long-ball up to Mane, who controlled well.
He then turned quickly to flummox Manuel Neuer and calmly chipped the ball into an empty net.
The Senegal international was a thorn in Bayern’s side throughout the game, and even scored our third goal of the night.
Liverpool could have scored more had Mohamed Salah been a little more clinical, however, we thoroughly deserved the win over the Bavarians.
Milner also has a strong Twitter game and posted the perfect hashtag for Mane’s first goal of the game.
Many fans were pleased with the performance of the former Leeds United star, and some even claimed he would be playing as the left-back in the quarter-finals.
Andy Robertson was booked in the final minutes of the game and will miss our quarter-final first leg, but the night was one to savour for most supporters.
