Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that defender Virgil van Dijk is fit for the Southampton game.
The German was speaking in the pre-match press conference and claimed that the defender trained normally ahead of the tie against his former club (h/t Sky Sports
).Van Dijk injured his ankle in the 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday. The Dutch defender did well to quell a two-on-one situation late in the game and picked up the knock trying to close down Moussa Sissoko.
The 27-year-old has been at the heart of Liverpool’s Premier League challenge and has played in every league game this season.
The German was extremely pleased with Van Dijk, especially that moment in the Tottenham win, and claimed that Van Dijk’s decision to let Sissoko take the shot was correct (h/t Sky Sports)
:“He did it alone, for what felt like 50 seconds, and he decided 100 per cent right but they still could have scored in that situation.”
The manager further claimed that the Dutch defender had improved at Liverpool joining from Southampton, and had made the team even better.
Van Dijk has also been doing the job at the other end of the team. The 27-year-old has four goals and three assists for us this season, and he will be crucial in us having any chance of winning a trophy this season.
