Liverpool made a fast start against Porto thanks to Naby Keita scoring in the fifth minute. The Guinea midfielder has found it difficult to perform this season but scored his first Liverpool goal in the 3-1 win over Southampton.
The former RB Leipzig midfielder is taking time to adjust to the Premier League but that goal at St. Mary’s seems to have given him confidence.
Keita was excellent in the first half against Porto and started it all with his deflected strike.
The Guinea midfielder was at his best against the Portuguese giants as he was intercepting balls, tackling the opposition and even performing some of his trademark slalom runs.
The midfielder played the entire game and barely put a foot wrong. His effect on the tie faded a bit in the second half but the Reds took their foot off the pedal too.
Keita had a pass completion percentage of 86% and completed more tackles than anyone on the pitch, with eight (h/t Whoscored.com).
The Guinean also had three successful dribbles in the game and had two interceptions in the 2-0 win.
Keita’s performance against the Saints was decent but we got to see what he really is capable of on Tuesday.
Many Liverpool fans praised the youngster for his outing at Anfield and believed they were finally seeing the best of the midfielder.
