John Walters, former Republic of Ireland and Stoke City striker, was talking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast when he named-dropped Sir Alex Ferguson. Walters claims
he was speaking to his old teammate and ex-Manchester United defender Phil Bardsley about the title race when he mentioned Ferguson’s thoughts.Walters and Bardsley are good friends and the former claimed that Ferguson told Bardsley that Manchester United will take points off Manchester City next week and that’ll be enough for Liverpool to win their first title in 29 long years.
“I was chatting with Phil Bardsley and I’m gonna drop a name here, he was sat with Sir Alex Ferguson,” Walters told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast. (h/t the Daily Mail
)“He sat with him and he thinks Liverpool are going to win it.
“He thinks Liverpool because he thinks United will get something out of the City game.”
As things stand now, Liverpool currently lead the way with two points, but Manchester City have a game in hand away at Burnley at the end of the month after both teams won on Sunday. We put Chelsea to the sword at our stomping ground to go back top of the table, while City won a tricky away game at Crystal Palace.
Things are heating up with every passing week and it remains to be seen who blinks first. Liverpool, meanwhile, travel to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon and while the Bluebirds are fighting for every single point to avoid relegation, we are well-equipped to beat them at their home.
