Mohamed Salah had a word of warning to newly crowned PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk
, according to the Liverpool Echo. The Egyptian won the accolade last season but was omitted from the six-man shortlist for the award this time around.
Salah was even left out from the PFA Team of the Year despite leading the scoring charts in the Premier League.
The former AS Roma star posted an image of him celebrating with Van Dijk on Instagram but his second story seemed to be aimed at some of his critics.
“Just be careful and don’t win all the awards this year… Otherwise you know what will happen next year!”
The Liverpool Echo reports that Salah received criticism this season despite leading the scoring charts like he did last time around.
The Egyptian won almost every individual award last season, and Van Dijk has been fantastic for the Reds this time around.
Van Dijk has been on a different level for us this season and has helped the team to 20 clean sheets in the Premier League.
The Reds have conceded just 20 goals from 36 games in the campaign, and we are in the Champions League semi-finals too.
The 27-year-old hasn’t been affected by the constant change of centre-back partners as well. Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have all had stints next to the Dutch giant.
Liverpool could end the season with a trophy but we’d need Manchester City to slip up in the Premier League.
With Van Dijk at the back though, we can be confident that the defence won’t be breached easily and the onus is on the attackers to score the goals.
