Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp has his say on PFA Team of the Year and it’s typical of the German

Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp wanted more Liverpool players in PFA Team of the Year

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with Virgil van Dijk winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

The defender saw off competition from Sadio Mane, Eden Hazard, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva.

This was the second year in succession that a Liverpool star has picked up the award as Mohamed Salah won it last season.

Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mane joined Van Dijk as a part of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, and Klopp believed there could have been more Reds in the XI (h/t LiverpoolFC.com).

“I have exactly the same pride for Sadio, Robbo and Trent because we all know in the moment we have a pretty special group of players here together.

“That all gave you the opportunity to play the season you played. You deserve the award, no doubt about that, but I think you agree there could have been three, four, five, six more players in the Team of the Year with a Liverpool shirt on.”

The German joked that the presence of the Manchester City players in the Team of the Year was alright because they had a “good season”.

Some glaring omissions in the PFA Team of the Year

Alisson has the most number of clean sheets in the season, and he wasn’t chosen in the Team of the Year, with Ederson taking his place.

Mohamed Salah is the leading scorer in the Premier League, and he too was snubbed from the end of season selection. One surprise name in the team was Paul Pogba. The Frenchman hasn’t been consistent all season but somehow made it to the XI.

Nevertheless, the Reds have a lot to celebrate but these should be kept on hold until the end of the season. Barcelona come calling on Wednesday and we have two more games in the Premier League remaining.

Manchester City lead the league by one point, and we have to keep winning to put them under pressure.
