‘Blessed’- Liverpool star dedicates goal to loved one amidst Anfield resurgence

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo dedicates goal against Tottenham to his newborn son

Starting in the centre of attack and drifting towards the left more often than not, Liverpool star Cody Gakpo assisted Mohamed Salah’s goal and scored one himself in the 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. He went up comfortably high in the air to find himself at the end of a top-class delivery by Harvey Elliott to head it into the goal at the Kop end.

What he created for Mo was much more beautiful than his own goal. Gakpo carried the ball, angled in from the left, and crossed it towards the far post from where Salah headed it in. For the Dutchman himself, this performance will serve as a major boost. With this goal, he completes the double vs Spurs, scoring home and away against them. He dedicated his goal to his newborn son, and here is what he told Sky Sports via BBC

:

“Everyone wanted to do their best in the last few weeks but it didn’t work. We wanted to enjoy it, play for goals, defend together and it was a good result.

“It was a good result and a good header. I’m very happy, very blessed. That was one for my son.”

“Everybody is aware of the situation [with Klopp leaving]. We wanted to show it for the fans but also for the manager and that’s what we did today.”

The 24-year-old looks so much better on the left than through the middle. In 51 appearances across all competitions this season, he now has 15 goals and six assists to boot.

With incoming manager Arne Slot set to take the reins at Anfield, Gakpo has the opportunity to further establish himself on the wing, leveraging Slot’s familiarity with his strengths from their time together in the Eredivisie when Gakpo was balling out for PSV.

Slot, who is arriving from Feyenoord, where he concluded the season, will likely recognise Gakpo’s potential to excel on the left flank, harnessing his pace, dribbling skills, and eye for goal to bolster Liverpool’s attacking threat. Under the Dutchman’s guidance, Gakpo could flourish even further, cementing his place as a vital cog in the Reds’ attacking machinery.

As Liverpool set their sights on more silverware and look to build on their success, Gakpo’s emergence as a dynamic winger is a real boon for the club. With his pace, skill, and eye for goal, he’s a real threat on the left flank, and under Slot’s guidance, he could surely become a true superstar at Anfield.

Lock them both on the wing.
