Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds keeping tabs on Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes

The Mirror (h/t Metro) claims that Liverpool are one of the three Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Gedson Fernandes.

The 20-year-old Benfica midfielder is also being tracked by Manchester United and Tottenham, according to the report, and Fernandes seems set for a switch to the Premier League.

Fernandes has played 37 times for Benfica this season and has found the back of the net just once.

The report claims that the player’s representatives were in England to discuss his future and the 20-year-old is rated at £35m.

Spurs leading the way for Fernandes’ signature

Tottenham are in a better position to sign the midfielder, according to the report, and are expected to invest heavily in the summer.

Spurs haven’t signed any players in two transfer windows while we have done some remarkable business since Jurgen Klopp arrived at the club.

The German has transformed the Reds from Champions League hopefuls to regulars in the competition, and we face Spurs in the final on June 1.

Fernandes could be a smart signing for the future, however, it is difficult to ascertain where he would feature in the Liverpool team.

The Reds are well-stocked with midfielders currently and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back from a lengthy knee injury which kept him out for most of this season.

Fabinho has done extremely well since joining in the summer and Naby Keita was getting into the groove before suffering a season-ending injury in Barcelona.
