Former Liverpool chief part of the team that could decide Man City’s Champions League fate

Latest Liverpool news: Rick Parry on board that decides Manchester City’s Champions League fate

The Mirror reports that there is proof against Premier League champions Manchester City for the allegations of financial wrongdoings, which could lead to a Champions League ban.

The Cityzens beat Liverpool by a single point as they defended their Premier League crown but are being investigated by a committee over several leaks regarding their financial conduct.

The Telegraph (h/t Mirror) adds that former Liverpool chief, Rick Parry, is on the eight-member investigatory chamber and City are concerned that the board have found them guilty.

The report adds that the officials from UEFA’s financial control board will present their findings and push for a one-year ban from the Champions League.

Sadio Mane in action against Manchester City

Parry was part of the Liverpool structure until 2009 and was even the Premier League’s chief executive.

The final decision will be taken by former Belgium prime minister Yves Leterme while another member of the board, Petros Mavroidis told CNN Sport that no decision has been taken on City yet (h/t Mirror

).

Another club to enter the Champions League?

The report is unsure about how hard the board will come down on City and whether another club could enter the Champions League.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea are guaranteed to participate and should City be kicked out, Arsenal or Manchester United could return, according to the Mirror.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola

The Gunners could gain direct entry into the competition if they win the Europa League final against the Blues.

It will be interesting to see how this transpires over the coming weeks as City haven’t won the Champions League under Pep Guardiola. They were knocked out by Liverpool last season and Spurs did a number on them this time around.

The Reds face Spurs in the final of the competition and hopefully, we win it for the sixth time.
