Liverpool FC transfer news: Ian McGarry claims Liverpool’s interest in Timo Werner has grown in recent weeks

Football expert Ian McGarry claims that Liverpool’s interest in Timo Werner has grown in recent weeks and the German would make an excellent signing for the Reds.

Liverpool missed out on the Premier League title despite amassing 97 points and are in the finals of the Champions League.

McGarry was speaking on the Transfer Window podcast and spoke about Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah sharing the Golden Boot with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Liverpool have Roberto Firmino playing as the striker but McGarry claimed Werner could take us to another level (h/t Daily Star):

“But I still believe the glaring deficiency in this Liverpool team is an out-and-out striker who scores 20-plus goals in a season.”

McGarry claimed that this kind of striker could have helped us win the Premier League and spoke about our interest in Werner too.

“We mentioned a few weeks ago on the podcast that they have an interest in Timo Werner at RB Leipzig and that interest has increased I’m led to believe in the last two weeks.”

No move from Bayern yet

McGarry also mentioned that Bayern Munich haven’t made an enquiry for the 19-goal striker and that the forward would provide us with a different dimension.

Firmino does a lot of hard work for the team but he plays second fiddle to our wide men. Werner would be an out-and-out striker and act as the focal point of the attack.

The 23-year-old can also play on the wings and it will be interesting to see where he could end up at the start of next season.
