Liverpool star reveals he practised Barcelona knockout goal and opens up about that special moment

Latest Liverpool news: Divock Origi confirms he had practised winner against Barcelona

Liverpool produced one of the greatest comebacks in football when they defeated Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield a few weeks ago.

The Reds were trailing 3-0 after the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against the Catalans but a brace from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum sent Liverpool to a second successive final.

The fourth goal featured some quick thinking from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Divock Origi. The right-back whipped in a quick corner and the Belgian was on hand to score the winner.

Divock Origi

The goal might have been a piece of magic but Origi claimed he had practised that finish earlier too (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):

“Funnily enough, I had that shot a couple of times in training, I practised the shot, the side of the net from the angle. It wasn’t bouncing, it was just a ball in,”

The Belgian added that he had the confidence to take on the first-time shot due to his earlier attempts and spoke about how he had to readjust his body:

“It was a very difficult finish because my back was turned to the ball. I was still looking and in the corner of my eye I saw Trent making a movement.

“I had to readjust quickly, turn my body 180 degrees and then try to put it into the side of the net. It was a hard movement with a bouncing ball as well, but luckily it went in so I’m happy.”

Origi emerges from the shadows

The Belgian was on the periphery of the first-team for most of the season but got a few chances to showcase his ability and took them.

The winner against Everton at Anfield started it all and he did great against Newcastle United too by bagging a goal to hand us the three points.

Origi’s brace in the Champions League semi-final could count as his most important goal in his Anfield career, and hopefully, there is more to come from the 24-year-old Belgian.
