The Liverpool Echo reports that Guinea have selected Naby Keita for their 25-man preliminary squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The summer tournament will also see Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah participate for their respective nations, however, Keita is currently recovering from a thigh injury.
The midfielder suffered the problem in the Champions League tie against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, and the Liverpool Echo reports that Jurgen Klopp had suggested that the 24-year-old would miss the AFCON.
However, Keita is part of the 26-man team that is training in Marbella, though he is continuing his rehab ahead of the Champions League final.
Liverpool face Tottenham in the finals of the competition and it is to be seen if Keita makes it to the matchday squad. The Guinea midfielder was in decent form for the Reds before he suffered the injury against the Catalans.
The Reds also have Roberto Firmino returning from an injury, and he should be fit to participate in the final.
The Brazilian is one of the keys to the game at the Wanda Metropolitano on 1st June.
Liverpool are slight favourites for the clash and we need to have the strongest possible team to defeat Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham.
Spurs might have lost both their clashes against us in the Premier League, but we cannot take them for granted.
