Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson explained why he did not swap shirts with Lionel Messi after the 4-0 hammering for Barcelona a few weeks ago.
Messi was in fantastic form in the semi-final first leg as his brace provided Barcelona with a 3-0 lead.
However, Liverpool turned things around at Anfield via braces from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum. Henderson also explained why he did not ask for Messi’s jersey after the win.
The former Sunderland star told the Daily Mail about Roy Keane’s input when the pair were at Sunderland (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Roy Keane told me when I was at Sunderland that if you ask for someone’s shirt, it looks like you are in awe of them.
However, the Englishman did confirm that he swapped jerseys with a former Liverpool star:
“As it turned out, I came home with Luis Suarez’s shirt. Luis is a good lad and he gave me it as a gesture as we had played together for Liverpool. I don’t know what he’s done with mine!”
The win over Barcelona was great but we have to prepare for a tough clash against Tottenham on Saturday.
Spurs cannot be taken as easy opponents, given their incredible 3-2 win over Ajax in Amsterdam a few weeks ago.
The London side could also have Harry Kane back in the starting XI, and that would make things more difficult for us.
