Latest Liverpool news: Tom Werner will back Jurgen Klopp on transfers in the summer

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner gave a wide-ranging interview to the Liverpool Echo.

The American spoke on topics such as Philippe Coutinho regretting his move to Barcelona and how the Reds tried to keep him last season.

The chairman also provided an insight into our transfer plans and shared some good news as the summer window rolls on.

The Liverpool Echo adds that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe the Reds will spend as much as they did in the previous summer window.

However, Werner is ready to back the manager if the German wants to make big signings (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“John (W Henry), Mike (Gordon) and I will leave the transfer business to those who know it so well – Jurgen and (sporting director) Michael Edwards.

“If they recommend someone then we will support that recommendation. Our role at FSG is to support the manager and the people around him in the best way that we possibly can.”

This would come as great news as the Reds could spend huge in the summer, should Klopp identify a player that can make us stronger.

Liverpool can attract top players

The chairman further spoke about Liverpool’s ability to attract top talent thanks to the great manager and team we have built under Klopp.

“We have such a strong squad with a strong back office and a manager who I think is one of the greatest managers in world football.

“So I don’t think there is going to be any players who if they were invited to play for Liverpool, wouldn’t jump at the opportunity.”

The German has taken us from being an average team to one of the best in Europe.

Liverpool can boast about reaching a second consecutive Champions League final as we face Tottenham on Saturday.

The Reds lost the final last time to Real Madrid but start this game as the slight favourites.

Klopp’s men would want to exorcise those demons from 12 months ago, and hopefully, we win the Champions League for the sixth time.
