Latest Liverpool transfer news: Reds contact Lyon over Moussa Dembele
L’Equipe (h/t Mirror) reports that Liverpool contacted Lyon over young striker Moussa Dembele.
The Frenchman left Celtic last season to join the French side and scored 20 goals for them in all competitions.
The 22-year-old also has experience in England having spent several seasons with Fulham before joining the Hoops.
Dembele plays as a central striker and wasn’t giving out much regarding his future. The 22-year-old was asked if he would return to England last month and replied (h/t Mirror):
“I signed for five years with Lyon and I’m happy there but we’ll see what happens.
“I’m happy to stay with Lyon next season but we’ll see.”
This isn’t the first Lyon player we have been linked with in the summer as Nabil Fekir, Houssem Aouar and Memphis Depay have all been looked at by the Reds in the past (h/t Mirror).
Liverpool face competition from Premier League rivals
The report adds that Arsenal have also contacted Lyon regarding the 22-year-old while Manchester United are best placed to sign the French attacker.
United also submitted a €40million offer for the 22-year-old last month, according to the report, as they look for a possible Romelu Lukaku replacement.
Liverpool could do with another quality striker in the team just to take the pressure off Roberto Firmino.
Divock Origi did a great job off the bench last season with some important goals. Rhian Brewster is also expected to play a part in our upcoming campaign.

Further, Dembele would not receive as many starts at Liverpool as he is receiving in Lyon given Firmino’s role in the side.
