Liverpool FC transfer news: Liverpool contact Kalidou Koulibaly’s agents and contemplate bidding for defender

Il Mattino (h/t Express) claims that Liverpool have contacted Kalidou Koulibaly’s agents, and the defender has been on Jurgen Klopp’s radar for a while.

The Senegal centre-back is one of the best in the Serie A and the report adds that Liverpool are contemplating bidding for the 27-year-old.

The report adds that Napoli hope to get €120m for the Senegal international, but the Reds face loads of competition from Juventus, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Napoli want to finalise a deal for the 27-year-old before the transfer window ends (h/t Express), but Koulibaly is participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old could also do well under Maurizio Sarri at Juventus. The former Napoli manager knows Koulibaly well, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move in the summer.

An incredible centre-back pairing in the making?

Virgil van Dijk is possibly the best defender in the world, and pairing him with Koulibaly would be incredible.

Liverpool had the best defence in the Premier League this season, and we could be even better with the Senegal star joining us.

However, the Reds already have a couple of quality centre-backs to pair Van Dijk – Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Dejan Lovren had some injury problems this season, but he can also do a great job.

Koulibaly’s price point could be the one major hurdle as he would become one of our most expensive signings. The Reds need to focus on signing a left-back and an attacker as cover for our first-team players.
