Ed Aarons of the Guardian reported that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita suffered a couple of injuries at the African Cup of Nations.
Keita played in the 1-0 loss to Nigeria and had to be subbed in the 71st minute. Aarons confirmed that the Liverpool star would also miss the final group game against Burundi.
The Guardian reporter added that this injury could increase the tensions between the Reds and Guinea after the national side rushed Keita’s return.
The 24-year-old picked up an injury against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
Keita was part of the squad that trained at Marbella before the Champions League final but did not regain fitness for the clash against Tottenham.
Guinea still named Keita as part of the squad, and he played in the first game against Madagascar too.
The midfielder was in decent form before he picked up the injury against Barcelona. The 24-year-old looked a little off the pace in the Premier League games and was outmuscled several times too.
However, he scored a couple of important goals for the Reds, and hopefully, he isn’t out for a long time.
Many Liverpool fans were upset at the latest injury for Keita and vented their anger on Twitter.
