Liverpool FC transfer news: Virgil van Dijk’s agent snubs enquiry from Barcelona

The Mirror reports that Barcelona are one of the admirers of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The centre-back joined the Reds for £75m from Southampton (h/t Mirror) and has further improved under Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman is possibly the best defender in the world and helped the Reds to the Champions League trophy last season.

The 28-year-old was approached by Barcelona, and The Mirror’s John Cross shared the details of how the Dutchman’s agent dealt with it:

“Do not expect it to happen for a moment, but Barcelona made enquiries about whether Virgil van Dijk could be tempted to leave Liverpool.

“They were quickly given short shrift by the Dutch defender’s representatives. They did not bother taking it further.”

A different Liverpool from previous years

Liverpool have seen a couple of their stars leave for the big La Liga clubs in recent years.

Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho had all made that move, but this seems to be a different Liverpool under Klopp.

The Reds are genuinely one of the best teams in the world, and that was backed by our Champions League win over Tottenham. We have several world-class stars in the team now and should improve further in the coming years.

Van Dijk isn’t the only one who had a great season last time around as Sadio Mane also won his first Golden Boot in the Premier League. The Senegal star shared that with Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were also great, while Alisson won two Golden Gloves for Liverpool last season.
