Latest Liverpool transfer news: Bascombe claims Reds will sign a first-teamer in the summer

Chris Bascombe shared his views after Liverpool’s bruising encounter against Sevilla in pre-season.

The Reds lost 2-1 to the Spanish side but were subjected to a lot of rough treatment. Yasser Larouci had to be stretchered off after a terrible challenge in the game, and Sevilla were reduced to 10 men.

There were some other fouls which bordered on a sending off, but Bascombe highlighted that the Reds were missing some of their superstars.

Our front three weren’t present, neither was our No.1 goalkeeper, and the journalist claimed that the Reds will make one first-team signing in the summer (h/t Telegraph):

“Liverpool plan to make a first-team signing in this transfer window and despite Klopp’s description of returning players as ‘like new arrivals’ a little freshening up would be reassuring.”

Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can be considered as new signings given that they barely played last season due to fitness concerns and injuries.

However, Xherdan Shaqiri will be out for a while after he returned to Melwood with a problem.

Liverpool need some first-team signings in defence

The attack could use some cover for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but Liverpool really need to sign a full-back.

Alberto Moreno left the club at the end of the season and we don’t have proper cover for Andy Robertson.

We could also do with an attacking midfielder but Oxlade-Chamberlain should be able to perform that role next season.
