Liverpool confirmed that striker Paul Glatzel underwent successful surgery after picking up an injury during pre-season.
The 18-year-old looked in decent shape as he made his debut for the senior Liverpool side in the summer.
However, he damaged knee ligaments in a friendly against Tranmere Rovers in July.
Glatzel had a great campaign last season alongside Bobby Duncan, and helped the U18s win the FA Youth Cup.
The young forward also broke into the U-23 side last season, and Neil Critchley added that Glatzel would return stronger than ever (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):
“Paul will receive all the support he needs from ourselves as an Academy and from the medical staff at Melwood during what will be a tough period of rehab.
“Luckily, we know Paul has the strength of character to overcome this setback and we look forward to seeing his talents back out on the pitch.”
The release from the club adds that Jurgen Klopp wants the player’s rehabilitation to take place at Melwood.
Glatzel is one of the brightest talents in the Liverpool setup and hopefully, he returns to action stronger than ever. The Reds handed opportunities to several youngsters during the pre-season campaign and many of them impressed.
However, we have seen some of them pick up injuries, such as Yasser Larouci and Caoimhin Kelleher.
Glatzel could be one of the youngsters who could break into the senior team soon, and it will be interesting to see which academy players make the jump this season.
