Not Fernandes – Liverpool interested in Sporting Lisbon star who faced the Reds in the US tour

Latest Liverpool transfer news: Reds interested in Sporting Lisbon’s Doumbia

Portuguese outlet Record (h/t Daily Mail) reports that Liverpool are interested in Idrissa Doumbia.

The 21-year-old joined Sporting Lisbon from Akhmat Grozny in January and has impressed for his new team.

The combative Ivory Coast midfielder faced the Reds in the 2-2 draw with Sporting Lisbon at Yankee Stadium.

The Reds have been linked with Bruno Fernandes in recent weeks (h/t Liverpool Echo) and Jurgen Klopp was also seen speaking to the Portuguese international after the game.

Fernandes scored one goal and assisted another in the draw, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up next season.

Liverpool eye midfielder for the future

The report claims that Liverpool won’t move for Doumbia this season and a potential deal can take place in the future.

Doumbia only made four starts for Sporting in the league last season but played 14 games in all competitions since joining in January.

The Reds are currently blessed with several quality midfielders in the team, and had to send Marko Grujic out on loan again.

Naby Keita had a stop-start season last time due to injuries while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be an important player for us this season.

The Englishman has recovered from a long-term knee injury and has been a part of the pre-season games.
