Robbie Fowler urges fans not to lose hope despite lack of big spending by Liverpool

Latest Liverpool news: Fowler tells fans not to worry about next season

Former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler has asked the fans to calm down ahead of the new season despite a lack of big moves in the transfer window.

The Reds have only made two signings in the summer, and both players are in their teens.

Sepp van den Berg joined from PEC Zwolle while Fulham’s Harvey Elliott is the latest addition to the team.

Most of our rivals have spent big to plug holes in their teams, but Fowler believes that adding a quality player to the side doesn’t always help.

The legend wrote for the Mirror and highlighted some of the previous seasons where we struggled after bringing in a star:

“I’ve seen Liverpool getting close so many times to a title-winning team, then trying to add that final ingredient – and failing spectacularly. Soon after I left the first time, they signed El Hadji Diouf, Salif Diao, Alou Diarra and Bruno Cheyrou.”

Fowler even brought up a fairly recent season when we brought in Alberto Aquilani, but things went pear-shaped under Rafa Benitez.

“It was the same in 2009, Alberto Aquilani and Maxi Rodriguez were supposed to be the final pieces, but keeping Xabi Alonso may have been a better idea.”

Keeping players is also important

Fowler added that Klopp is one of the best in the world and backed his decisions in the team.

The former striker then spoke about the Reds losing key players in earlier seasons such as Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.

Philippe Coutinho

This game him another reason to trust Klopp as Liverpool have not sold any of their stars in the summer, and the former striker believed we are a stabler unit than before:

“I sense Liverpool are a more settled camp than they’ve been in years, decades even. No one is leaving the club this summer, none of the big names anyway, and that hasn’t happened for so long.”

Fowler added that Klopp finally has a unit that believes in themselves and has the potential to improve further.

The Englishman ended by suggesting that Klopp might not be able to find the right player in the window, and he would wait to get the right addition to the team, as he did with Alisson and Virgil van Dijk.
